Abstract

The office of international affairs is one of the organizational units responsible for each university or educational institution for designing and implementing international activities. In fact, this unit is the pioneer of the internationalization of all academic communities related to the international world or vice versa foreigners know and come to study at the university. This study aims to analyze whether the form of programs implemented by the office of international affairs in supporting universities to become international class. This research uses a qualitative method with the type of case study, the source of data is taken from fifteen informants through individual and group interviews consisting of heads and staff of international affairs offices on several campuses in Southeast Asia, lecturers and students who have participated in programs selected by the purposive sampling technique. To strengthen the interview findings, the author also took data from expert opinions, highly reputable journals related to this research in the same context and issue. All data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis technique. The findings show that six internationalization programs are implemented, namely i) student mobility, ii) university partnerships, iii) curriculum development, iv) English language support, v) internationalization services and vi) international research and development. The six programs of the office of international affairs that have been implemented as the findings of this research, have actually led several universities in Southeast Asia to become World Class Universities. Instead, it is necessary to improve the quality of existing programs and dare to make new innovations to accelerate a university to become an international citizen.
